Study­ing in the Czech Repub­lic puts you in the mid­dle of Europe. Though the cost of edu­ca­tion and liv­ing expenses in Czech Repub­lic are   cheap com­pared to  other coun­tries like US and UK ‚it may be advis­able for prospec­tive inter­na­tional stu­dents to look at the Schol­ar­ship options as well.

If the for­eign stu­dents decide to study in Czech, they have equal chances to get any of type of schol­ar­ship offered at par­tic­u­lar fac­ulty as their Czech col­leagues. Depend­ing on the rules of the fac­ulty, those – as amended by § 91 of Act no. 111 (1998) on Higher Edu­ca­tion – can be :

–schol­ar­ship for out­stand­ing schol­arly, sci­en­tific, research, devel­op­ment, artis­tic or other cre­ative results con­tribut­ing to the enhance­ment of knowledge;

–schol­ar­ship for research, devel­op­ment and inno­va­tion activities;

–schol­ar­ship in the case of a student’s dif­fi­cult social con­di­tions (social bur­sary, some­where also a schol­ar­ship for fund­ing the costs of liv­ing etc.);scholarship granted in other cases wor­thy of spe­cial consideration.

Schol­ar­ships for stu­dents tak­ing non-Czech programmes.

Schol­ar­ships, grants and bur­suries can by pro­vided even to the stu­dents, who study in for­eign language.The basic con­di­tion to gain this schol­arschip is usally to be a full-time stu­dent, the oth­ers are announced by con­cerned faculties.

Types of scholarships

 I. Schol­ar­ship Awards within the For­eign Devel­op­ment Assis­tance Programme

The Gov­ern­ment of the Czech Repub­lic offers to the stu­dents com­ing from devel­op­ing coun­tries schol­ar­ships, which are part of the frame­work of its For­eign Devel­op­ment Assis­tance. These schol­ar­ships sup­port the study of these stu­dents at pub­lic insti­tu­tions of higher edu­ca­tion in the Czech Republic.These Gov­ern­ment Schol­ar­ships cover the stan­dard length of study for those stu­dents who:want to study Bach­e­lor, Mas­ter or Doc­toral study pro­grammes and attend one-year prepara­tory course of the Czech lan­guage and other field-specific train­ing. Appli­cants are usu­ally required to pass entrance exam­i­na­tions at the higher edu­ca­tion insti­tu­tion con­cerned, because this is one of the con­di­tion for get­ting the schol­ar­ship award;want to study follow-up Mas­ter study pro­grammes or Doc­toral study pro­grammes with instruc­tion in English.Scholarship appli­ca­tions can only be filed on-line. Schol­ar­ship awards under bilat­eral or mul­ti­lat­eral inter­na­tional agreements

The Min­istry of Edu­ca­tion, Youth and Sport of the Czech Repub­li­can­nu­ally offers schol­ar­ships (for study or research pur­poses) to for­eign nation­als pur­suant to many bilat­eral inter­gov­ern­men­tal or depar­men­tal agree­ments. Appli­cants for gain­ing this schol­ar­ship are nom­i­nated by com­pe­tent author­ity of the coun­try con­cerned, where they can also lodge their schol­ar­ship applications.
