Accounting and Finance for Managers
The study of core aspects of accounting and finance is a vital part of the required knowledge and skills for students who are either prospective managers or who may be considering working in the future within business and management disciplines. This module will introduce students to the core aspects of accounting and finance, namely financial reporting, management accounting and financial management.
Business Communication (ESL)
This module aims to provide foreign language learners of English with the opportunity to engage in effective communication in various business environments (e.g. accounting, management, marketing, HRM). This involves developing awareness of different cultural approaches in business situations and appropriate language demands, both spoken and written. These requirements have both cognitive and performative aspects. Performative aspects will be enabled via the virtual learning environment and other appropriate communication technologies.
The project requires the student to complete a piece of independent study on a relevant topic from the field of business. This should complement a student’s taught programme (while avoiding duplication) and facilitate a detailed understanding of the various aspects of business.
This project is designed to develop student research, organisational and personal skills, and also requires the student to demonstrate an ability to present, analyse and evaluate information in a reflective and critical manner.
Principles of Marketing Management
This module introduces and examines, in more depth, the tactical tools available to marketing managers for the management of the controlled variables as typified by the marketing mix. As such, the course introduces key marketing concepts and gives students the grounding necessary to apply marketing management principles in their first managerial position.
Strategic Human Resource Management
This module enables students to pursue their interest in HRM beyond the foundations laid at Level 5. The ways in which people are strategically managed and developed is playing a more significant role in organisational performance. As well, the contribution of HRM to securing a competitive advantage has been acknowledged by leading academics and business leaders.
The study of this module will provide students with an understanding of some of the essential tools and concepts within this discipline.
This module enables students to explore a range of strategic issues in more depth through a mix of independent study and group discussion. The module is designed for students with relatively little previous experience of strategic management. It will introduce students to concepts, theories and current issues in strategic management
