Management implies the qualities of leadership and the capacity to motivate people to work in order to achieve clearly defined objectives. It involves taking decisions based on innumerable economic and other factors.

It is also noted that many  organisations follow an operational hierarchy in management. They are :

Junior management positions:

Management trainees undergo a period of probation during which they are introduced to the functioning of the organization. After completion of this on-the-job training they are assigned to junior level managerial positions.Management trainees work as junior most executives and assist the executive cadre

Middle management positions:

Divisional or branch manager, personnel manager, accounts manager, stores manager, sales manager are senior positions which form the middle level management in a firm.
They are a link between those assisting them and the senior managers. They coordinate, and direct work within the organization as well as with agencies outside the organization.Middle managers, however, work for many years at this level before moving to senior positions. They are generally expected to share wider responsibilities as they become more senior at their levels.

Senior management positions:

The senior management occupies key positions in an organisation. They are managing directors, chief personnel manager, financial controller, vice president, director, etc. They are the planners of the firm. They are responsible for formulation of policies, developmental activities and also for making suitable selection of junior and middle level executives. They represent the management and the organization.

From junior most position to the top level posts professional managers grow according to their talent, competence and qualification.
